Ten Bulgarians are at the semi-finals of the European Championship for men and women
A Vice-championship and three bronze medals for Bulgaria after the second day of the World Championship of Karate Kyokushin, held at the Palace of Culture and sports in Varna. In front of the fans amongst over 1000 contestants from Bulgaria and 32 other countries, coaches and guests, Miglen Dimitrov held the world vice-champion title high. He made it to the final after defeating Alidiar Dosumov from Kazakhstan at the +65 kg 14/15-years old. His opponent for the world title was the Russian Sergey Ivannikov.
The bronze medals suited well Ivon Teneva and Teodora Popova (cat. 12 and 13-years old), as well as Vasil Dimitrov (cat. 16 and 17-years old).
The second day of high octane action held great success for men and women from our national team. Their matches from the second European Championship for men, women and veterans have already started and ten out of thirteen competitors are in the European semi-finals for men, women and veterans of karate kyokushin.
Lyubomira Nikolova defeated the representative of Spain, and Krasimira Mileva took the win from a Romanian at the quarter-finals. The Doychevi brothers (Cristian and Georgi) also overcame their opponents and will fight for European titles tomorrow.
In the categories of and over 95 Georgi Ivanov and Hristo Georgiev fought their way to great victories, which rocketed them straight into the semi-finals. Dilyan Nikolov (cat. up to 60) defeated a representative of Azerbaijan and he will face Romuldas Auga from Lithuana at the next stage.
Stilyan Petkov (cat. 65 kg), Ivan Komanov (cat. up to 60 kg) and Dimitar Dimitrov (cat. up to 75 kg) will try their chances for the finals tomorrow. Petkov will face an Armenian, Ivan Komanov will reach for the gold against a Spaniard, and Dimitar Dimitrov will face a Belorussian karateka.
