The juniors from the kyokushin karate team at the Bulgarian Karate Kyokushin Federation (BKKF) won 1 championship and a total of 11 medals from the European Championship, which took place on September 21st (Friday) in Kaliningrad, Russia. Our karateka competed against fighters from 10 countries and gave Bulgaria 1 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze medals.
The Bulgarians dominated entirely the junior category for ages 16-17 years old, +80 kg. Aleksandar Aleksiev and Vasil Dimitrov were the two finalists as Vasil won the championship and Aleksandar took the silver. The bronze, in the same category, went to Ivan Popov – yet another representative of the BKKF.
Maria Chepilova, Plamena Yakimova and Tereza Davidova also won silver medals and the bronze went to Nicol Harizanova, Nikola Kyuchukov, Miglen Dimitrov, Martin Gechev and Nikolay Emilov.
Today we are about to see some more exciting action in Russia – the tatami will become the men and women fighting ground. A total of 13 karateka from Bulgaria. Our National Team is accompanied by the coaches Zhivko Andreev, Hristo Hristov, Zahari Damyanov, Petar Martinov and Stanislava Boycheva.
