This year the special award “Golden Belt” in the category “Fidelity to Traditions” was awarded to Shihan Asen Assenov from the Bulgarian Karate Kyokushin Federation. He has been training Kyokushin karate for almost 42 years and is the first gold medalist of the European Kyokushin Championship for Bulgaria. He holds the sixth dan and is a member of the Board of the Bulgarian Karate Kyokushin Federation (BKKF). He has previously practiced wrestling, kickboxing and judo. In 1994 he became European champion in kickboxing in Lisbon in the category up to 90 kg. As a coach he shaped many European and world champions – Stilian Petrov, Petar Martinov, Danaila Cherneva, Daniela Dineva, Anelia Assenova and others.
