Varna hosted a 2-week camp for the Bulgarian Karate Kyokushin Federation’s national team. Senior coach of the elite team is sensei Zahari Damyanov – acting world champion in absolute category. In Varna he was aided by sensei Zhivko Andreev, Hristo Hristov, Petar Marinov, as well as Stanislava Boycheva and Aleksandra Marinova
Male and female teams completed their final stage of preparation for the world championship in Russia (9-10th December) and for the Japan Open championship, which is set for the next weekend. Junior male and female teams train for their participation at the world championship of kyokushin – kan, which is also hosted in Tokyo in the end of the next week. Our fighters will fly to the country of the rising sun on Wednesday.
Sensei Zahari Damyanov commented for “Cherno More” Media Group that the camp started with senior male and female teams and later on the juniors joined as well.
“It was a good camp and I hope contusions were as little as possible. The competitors acquired an astounding experience and I hope that they will put it to good use during the upcoming events. Everybody trained with the greatest desire. I avoid making forecasts before big events, but here I hope for the most possible prizes. Junior male and female competitors present a lot of competitors who pickup their steam and I can already see them entering the senior teams. Now it is a few days of club training and on Wednesday we depart for Japan. Senior male and female teams will have a little bit more time to spare on the preparation for the world championship in Russia” said sensei Zahari Damyanov.
The branch – head of the BKKF sensei Nikolay Rachev attended the Varna preparation camp on Friday.
“He is happy from what he saw” was the summary of sensei Damyanov concerning the impressions of sensei rachev. He also reminded that the All Japan tournament next weekend features all category fights in the arena where he held the cup for №1 in the world. Female contestant will be Stanislava Boycheva and male contestants are Yordan Yanev and Georgi Ivanov.
“Male contestants are heavy – circa 100 kg each, which is important for such type of tournament. I hope we could get to the top places. We will adjust our strategy and tactics on the fly” is the firm statement of sensei Damyanov.
He pointed out that male and female had a serious training for the world championship in Russia during Japan Grand Prix (in March) and IFK Romania.
When interviewed Stanislava Boycheva – one of our most experienced karateka and coach of female team shared that all of our contestants are in great shape for the Japanese competition.
“They have the mindset t give it all they got. Therefore I am optimistic. They stand good chances to get medals, their preparation is on the level, thanks to the effort of sensei Zahari Damyanov. As a coach I see the art in a different way. I will be back on the tatami after a significant brak. I have no knowledge on my opponents in the Japanese contest. I also don’t have much weight, but I will compensate with technique” was her confident commentary.
