After disputed matches Georgi Doychev and Dilyan Nikolov won against their Russian rivals and won the championships
Bulgaria won against Russia during the professional’s kyokushin karate tournament WFKO Grand Prix 2018, which took place on July 4th during the summer training camp jointly organised by the Bulgarian Karate Kyokushin Federation (BKKF) and the Kyokushin World Union (KWU) in Kamchia. After well-disputed battles with one of Russia’s best competitors, Georgi Doychev and Dilyan Nikolovcame out victorious. The preparation of both our karateka was under the strict supervision of the Absolute World Champion and Senior Coach of the BKKF National Team Zahari Damyanov.
Dilyan Nikolov faced Sergo Armenyan in the category up to 60 kg. Our representative won and did not leave any place for doubt after the unanimous voting of the judges. The more dramatic match came between Georgi Doychev from the BKKF and the Kyokushin Karate World Champion Victor Belyaev from Russia. The two put up a real show for the championship up to 80 kg, but at the end Georgi was crowned as the new champion with 4:1 votes from the judges.
This is not the first time these two karateka meet. In their last encounter – at the World Championship Semi-finals in Yekaterinburg, in the end of 2017, the Russian managed to fight his way to the gold and Georgi Doychev took the bronze medal.
The professional’s kyokushin karate tournament WFKO Grand Prix 2018 just turned its second year. We remind the readers that in 2017 Bulgaria had only one champion – Nikolay Yorgov from the BKKF who won against a representative of Japan.
The WFKO Grand Prix is part of the 12th kyokushin karate training camp sponsored by the BKKF and thee KWU. This year it attracted 1600 karateka from 30 countries. The camp started on July 1st and will end on July 8th. In Saturday, July 7th, we will see the exams for new belts
