Bulgarian Karate Kyokushin Team returned from the European Karate Championship for senior male and female in the Netherlands hosted by the Kyokushin World Federation (KWF) with total of 7 medals.

365

Two of these seven are silver and the rest are bronze, which was good enough for our delegation to be very pleased with the overall performance mainly due to the fierce competitors. Mihaela Ivanova and Kristian Doychev were very close to the title, but captured the silver medal instead. Ivanova even came out of the final fight with a broken nose.

“In my opinion this is a great achievement for us. The team is relatively young and we are yet to have our great triumph. We had our eye on the gold medal, but we had no luck – fortune was not on our side.” said coach Zahari Damyanov.

For the silver medalist Kristian Doychev this was an extreme competition.

“I lost to the Russian opponent at the final. Before that I had five matches, which were tough and intense.” commented our karateka.

The head of delegation Hristo Traykov added: “It was a highly contested tournament. We saw 426 participants from 26 countries and still our karateka came through just fine”.

Bronze medals were given to Hristo Georgiev, Yordan Yordanov, Berkzhan Shen, Georgi Doychev and Dimitar Dimitrov.

The next competition, which will be hosted by the Bulgarian karate federation is set for December 3rd and 4th in Varna.
