On the 22.10.2016, the Palace of Culture and Sports in the city of Varna, hosted the International Cup “Varna” in kyokushin karate for junior male and female contestants in junior and senior ages, cadets up to 21 years old and men shaken – shobu. This tournament was attended by karateka from Greece and 23 Bulgarian clubs in total of 15 categories. During the opening ceremony, sensei Nikolay Rachev handed the new black belts, which were earned at the traditional summer camp under the supervision of kancho Royama.
While the principal team was representing Bulgaria at the World Cup in Hungary, here the battle was for the free spots in the upcoming KWU Fifth World Championship for junior male and female contestants /12 – 17 years old/, which will take place on December 3rd and 4th in the city of Varna.
All fights were highly contested and frequently we saw maximal overtime or waza – ari or ippon. Most technical contestants were Hristina Dimitrova from “Katana” – city of Veliko Tarovo and Lachezar Plachorov from “Asken” – city of Stara Zagora.
The fighting spirit prizes went to Dimitra Polulaki and Milltiados Polulakis from Greece.
The best referee was Daniela Dineva.
The team champion is “Kyokushin” – city of Shumen with 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
The national team for the World Championship is to be named soon.
