Over 380 fighters were competing for the medals from The International Karate Kyokushin Tournament for Cup “Shumen”. The 11th edition of the competition was held during the weekend in “Arena Shumen”. There were participants from three countries – Bulgaria, Belarus, and Serbia.
There were a lot of disputed fights on the tatami mats from all of the group ages – from kids to veterans. The Team Cup was given to a team from Rousse called “Ipon” for second year in a row. They also took the most medals.

Traditionally, there were medals given for the first three places and also special honors in the different age groups. Marina Vasileva from “Samurai” (Burgas), Lyubomir Borisov from “Armeec” (Sofia) and Plamen Penev from “Kyokushin – Shumen” took an award for “Fighting spirit”. Atanas Lichev from “Champion” (Purvomay) and Nikolina Boyadzhieva from “Katana” (Veliko Tarnovo) took an award for “The best technique”.

This year there were cups named “Debut”, given to the kids, which are participating for the first time but still impressed with good technique. The proud owners on two of those are Garbis Beyleryan from “Nihonto” (Varna) and Stefania Zlateva from TIM (Varna).

The hosts from the sports club “Kyokushin” made the crowd happy with their 14 medals, from which 6 golden, 5 silver and 3 bronze.

The international tournament for the cup “Shumen” is organized by the Bulgarian Karate Kyokushin Federation, SC “Kyokushin” from Shumen and with the assistance of Shumen’s municipality.
